Hope When Things Seem Impossible
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
When things seem impossible, are you guilty of saying, “all we can do now is pray?” I admit that I have said this a few times.
I wonder what God thinks about being the last resort? We have no hope but God. Yet, we try all of our methods first. When they don’t work, then we pray.
There are many impossible situations in the Bible. The Israelites fleeing from Egypt found themselves in a desperate situation. They stood at the edge of the Red Sea with nowhere to go. Deep waters were ahead of them. A hostile army was behind. God had put them in an impossible situation. Then in His power, God parted the Red Sea.
Think about young David who stood before an armed and angry giant. In God’s power, he killed the giant. Remember Lazarus, brother of Mary and Martha? He became ill, and the sisters sent for Jesus. When Jesus arrived at their home, Lazarus had been dead for four days. Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here my brother would not have died.” Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.
We are familiar with these Bible stories, yet we put limits on God. We limit our vision to what we know to be in the realm of possibility. God’s definition of possibility is different from ours. We forget that God has no impossibilities.
Do you feel that you have reached a dead end? Do you feel that your situations are more difficult than anything God has dealt with before? Claim this promise of God recorded in Jeremiah 32:27: “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” God does not promise to grant us everything on our agenda. He promises to meet real need. He has the power to do what is necessary to meet those real needs. Why do we forget that?
We have a promise in our Savior: all things are possible with God.
